The figure that decides is not the mean wind but the gust, and not the one on the ground but the one at the height you will fly, which is almost always stronger. As a practical rule, do not go out if the forecast gust approaches the wind limit your manufacturer declares, because that limit describes what the aircraft withstands, not what it can fly with margin.

The wind that matters is up there
At ground level the wind is slowed by buildings, trees and the terrain itself. At one hundred metres nothing slows it, and it is normal for it to be considerably stronger than what you feel at take-off.
That is why a surface forecast falls short for deciding. What you need is the forecast at flight height and for the specific hour of the flight, not the daily average.
The gust outranks the average
A sustained wind of twenty kilometres per hour is manageable for almost any drone. Gusts of forty on top of that average are not: they are short blows the flight controller has to compensate with motor power, and that is where the battery goes and where image stability is lost.
If you can only look at one number, look at the gust. It is the one that predicts the scare.
What is not wind and still stops you
Rain is obvious and almost no consumer drone tolerates it. Three others are less obvious. Temperature: cold cuts battery capacity and real endurance falls. Humidity and fog: besides soaking the aircraft, they ruin visibility and with it your duty to keep the drone in sight.

How to check it without opening five tabs
The usual approach is to cross-check a weather report, a wind forecast and the times of sunrise and sunset by hand. The problem is that none of those sources is designed for a flight: they give the daily average, or the reading of a station fifteen kilometres away.
